Akel Engineering Group offers full comprehensive master planning services for large irrigation delivery systems. We have planned, and effectively optimized for both delivery and cost, one of the largest irrigation systems in the world. Our customized approach and specialized modeling efforts allow us to model low pressure irrigation systems and gravity fed irrigation systems that present a unique challenge for planning and evaluation. We have effectively partnered with specialty firms to evaluate delivery and surge analysis within irrigation systems as well.

2019 Irrigation System Master Plan

Coachella Valley Water District

  • Developing and verifying a GIS database from over 1,500 record drawings for the existing CVWD irrigation delivery system which is comprised of approximately 430 miles of pipeline.
  • Develop a hydraulic model in Innovzye’s InfoSWMM to simulate the low-pressure head conditions in the irrigation system.
  • Reviewing historical irrigation deliveries and developing demands to be used for evaluation purposes.
  • Calibrating the hydraulic model to verify the hydraulic grade throughout the system.
  • Evaluating the hydraulic capacity of the existing irrigation delivery system.
  • Identifying future water delivery scenarios and performing a system evaluation.
  • Preparing a pipeline renewal and replacement plan and improvement prioritization.
